What is Midwinters?

Midwinters is a dance for the entire university that is sponsored by the German Club. Originally started as a social outlet for the student population over 100 years ago, the tradition remains today. The dance is held in February in Squires Commonwealth ballroom. The members of the German Club decorate the entire ballroom transforming it to a distant land or a mystical place representing the theme of the dance. More information about this year's Midwinter's Dance can be found at www.midwinters.com.


What is the phone number at the Manor?

The main phone number for the manor is (540) 552-6828. The phone number for the Alumni Foundation office is (540) 552-6830.


Where is the German Club Manor?

The German Club manor is located on Southgate drive past the foot ball stadium. From the Virginia Tech campus, turn left onto Southgate drive from Spring Road. After you go over the hill, the manor is on the right. The address is 711 Southgate Drive and there is a sign at the end of the driveway.


How do I contact the German Club for help with a service project?

The Service Chair, Taylor Quicke, coordinates service projects for the school and the community. He may be contacted at tquicke@vt.edu.


How do I reserve the German Club Manor for an event?

The director of the Alumni Foundation, Remmie Arnold, handles reservations for events held at the manor. Remmie can be reached at rla4@vt.edu or (540) 552-6830.


How do I speak at a German Club meeting?

Guest speakers for German Club meetings are scheduled by the president, Chris Valdes. Chris may be contacted at cvaldes@vt.edu.


What other events does the German Club sponsor?

In addition to the annual Midwinters Dance, the German Club puts on a number of other events for Virginia Tech and the community. In the spring the German Club sponsors Gold Rush, a fundraising event for the Greek community. In that this event is not for German Club's philanthropy, all of the money raised goes to the philanthropies of the participating sororities. In the spring, the German Club holds a Leadership Conference that has been developed for student leaders at Virginia Tech.
